Access Opportunity: Upward Bound

On Saturday, February 24, 2018, Oxnard College hosted the first annual TRIO Day Ventura County. The conference was coordinated by the Ventura County TRIO Pre-Collegiate Programs from California Lutheran University, League of United Latin American Citizens, and was designed for regional students enrolled in TRIO programs such as Upward Bound and Talent Search. The leadership conference was designed to empower, redefine, and inspire youth across the region. Community mentors such as Dr. Oscar Cobian, Vice President of Student Development, Gilbert A. Romero, Superior Court Judge, and Gloria Lopez, EOPS Counselor were in attendance. Workshops provided included topics such as resiliency, leadership, transfer pathways, and the role of branding in relation to career path choices. Approximately 135 Oxnard Union High School District students were in attendance.

We are now accepting applications for our newly launched Upward Bound program! Funded by the United States Department of Education, Upward Bound at Oxnard College is in collaboration with the Ventura County TRIO Pre-Collegiate Programs and California Lutheran University.

We work to help students access opportunity. Our goal is to impart knowledge, to motivate, to encourage and to equip low income and/or potential first-generation college students to enroll in, persist at, and graduate from a postsecondary institution. All program participants benefit from free services including academic tutoring, mentorship, financial guidance, application assistance and fun enrichment activities that improve educational access and retention.
