Ashley Chelonis Awarded VCCCD’s 2017 Classified Employee of the Year

Ashley will join three other District nominees at the Feb. 21 Board meeting where the state finalist will be announced.

Congratulations to Oxnard College’s very own Ashley Chelonis who has been recognized as the Ventura County Community College District Classified Employee of the Year. Ashely was recognized by the VCCCD Board of Trustees at the February 21, 2017 board meeting, and is now a finalist for wider California state recognition.

Ashley has worked for the District since 2010, and has served as an Instructional Technologist/Designer at Oxnard College since 2015.

Ashley is instrumental in instructing and supporting faculty, staff, and students in the use of technologies to support student success. She is dedicated to improving distance education as a pathway to student learning.

Ashley is a major contributor to the Oxnard College Distance Education Committee. She is also a leader on the district-wide Instructional Technology Advisory Committee as the senior Instructional Technologist/Designer in the district, and collaborates with committee members to identify, develop, implement, and evaluate areas in which technology can be applied to enhance teaching and learning. In addition Ashley serves on a myriad of other college and district-wide committees.  Before moving to Oxnard College, Ashley was also the Classified Senate Secretary for two years at Moorpark College.

Ashley currently serves on the Executive Board of the Simi Valley Neighborhood Council District #3, and ran for Simi Valley City Council in November 2016. She wrote an international Stepmom Blog for nearly a decade, is a licensed foster parent, and a youth leader and mentor for Simi Valley youth. She and her family also assist in animal rescues, and foster stray and wild cats and dogs from all over California.

Ashley is always willing to assist her fellow employees and does so with the knowledge, professionalism, and kindness that is necessary in her position. She is an exemplary classified professional, and deserves this recognition as Classified Employee of the Year.
