Oxnard College partnered with KCRW Santa Barbara and the Ventura County Star to host a live immigration broadcast: Undocumented under Trump. KCRW Host Jonathan Bastian spoke with experts on immigrant rights and the local economy to learn how this new administration may impact one of California’s most vulnerable populations, and how local leaders are responding. Joining in the conversation was Oxnard alumna and immigration attorney, Gabriella Navarro Busch.

This event is one of several that Oxnard College has hosted to address immigration concerns. On Thursday, February 19, Gabriella Navarro Busch led a Dreamers Allies Immigration: Know Your Rights workshop, and on November 16 over 300 students attended a Post-Election Forum. The event was organized by Oxnard College Anthropology Professor Arion Melidonis and featured a panel of faculty, staff, student leaders and an immigration lawyer. The open discussion served as an opportunity to create dialogue and understanding after the election. The event also offered students the chance to ask questions and share their feelings.
Students are reminded of the following on-campus resources:
The Oxnard College Health Center has two mental health counselors on staff to provide assistance to those experiencing distress. Students can call the Health Center at 805.678.5832 for more information or drop by the office. Also of note, the JED Foundation is a great online resource with sound suggestions for managing stress.
And, graciously, immigration attorney Gabriella Navarro-Busch is happy to answer student inquiries free of charge. Please contact Oscar Cobian for information (email@example.com).
